Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday came down heavily on BJP-led centre over implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the country and said the GST hampered millions of traders, shopkeepers, businessmen and new entrepreneurs in the country.
The former CM further said, “GST has affected the Indian economy severely. The traders, businessmen and shopkeepers and new entrepreneurs have suffered a lot.”
Gogoi also pointed out contradictory statement of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on GST.
“Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed growth in tax collection after implementation of GST while chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has admitted downfall in tax collection,” Gogoi said.
Criticising the state government, Gogoi said, “A large scale corruption is prevailing in the state.”
Gogoi said, “There has been an increase in insurgency problem in the state after demonetisation imposed by the centre in 2016 which is totally opposite to the promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi before implementation of GST. People have lost faith in the BJP-led Government.”
