A trader from Western Assam’s Goalpara district was allegedly killed by a dacoit-gang on Thursday in Songsak area of Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills district.
Johurul Islam, a trader from Mariyamnagar in Goalpara town, was attacked with sharp weapons by a gang of robbers when he along with an associate was coming home on a vehicle from Williamnagar in East Garo Hills, where he has a business establishment.
Police officials said the dacoits stopped him on the road at Sansak area and demanded money and when Islam refused to comply with their demands, the groups attacked him with sharp weapons robbing him of his bags and cash.
Police arrived at the spot and rushed him to a hospital in Tura, where he was declared brought dead. Islam’s body was handed over to family members after post-mortem examination on Friday.
