Low-cost airline GoAir is planning to launch daily flights in the Aizawl-Guwahati sector from October 4.
Senior officials of GoAir visited Aizawl, and inspected the Lengpui airport to finalise the modalities to launch the direct air connectivity with Guwahati.
After the withdrawal of flights to Guwahati and Delhi by the Jet Airways from Aizawl in February this year, Mizoram at present has direct air link with only Kolkata.
At present, only Air India has been running a flight from Aizawl to Kolkata.
GoAir officials are optimistic that the Aizawl – Guwahati sector is going to be cost-effective and popular.
In November 2005, GoAir had launched its operations as a low-fare carrier to commoditize air travel and offer airline seats at a marginal premium to train fares across India.
At present, the airline operates over 300 daily flights and approximately 1800 weekly flights across 31 destinations – 24 domestic and 7 international.
GoAir has announced that the new flight will depart at 6.50 am from Guwahati, and will arrive at Lengpui airport at 7.50 am.
The departure time from Aizawl has been fixed at 8:40 am, and arrival at Guwahati airport will be at 9:50 am. GoAir is planning to deploy Airbus 320 in the sector.
