At a time when there is allegation of Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) being illegally appointed by the Health Department of Assam, the Gauhati High Court while intervening into the matter has issued an order asking the concerned authorities to terminate all the ANMs, who were appointed illegally, from their services.

It may be mentioned that observing all the information regarding the illegal appointments of the said ANMs, the Gauhati High Court has ordered to terminate their services and asked the concerned authorities to appoint the deprived candidates in the vacant posts on the basis of eligibility.

The order of the High Court came following the final hearing of a petition filed by some deprived candidates challenging the alleged illegal appointment of a number of ANMs.

This order was issued by the bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy of Gauhati High Court.

It is to be mentioned that the Health Department of Assam on November 16, 2013 issued an advertisement for appointment in 835 vacant posts of ANM.

The appointment process was also started on October 13, 2015.

But at the same time, allegation of illegal appointment in the post was raised.

Petition was also lodged with the Gauhati High Court by the deprived candidates seeking the High Court’s intervention into the matter.

However, though the High Court has issued the directive to terminate the ANMs who have been illegally appointed, it has also asked the Assam Government to examine before terminating the ANMs, who were appointed ‘illegally’, whether their appointments were illegal not.

On the other hand, the High Court also asked the State Government to terminate the ‘illegally appointed’ ANMs only after issuing proper notices and do the needful considering the eligibility of the deprived candidates, who lodged the petition in the High Court.
