The apex students’ body in the Garo Hills of Meghalaya, Garo Students’ Union (GSU) has appealed to the State Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma to reconsider raising the upper age limit for government job applicants and to review the matter.
In a petition to the Chief Minister, the GSU argued the government should reconsider the maximum upper age limit for general, OBC, and schedule tribe for applying into various government jobs to tackle the growing rate of unemployment.

The students’ body also stated that the uniform upper age limit of 32 years for applying into government jobs is ‘unjustified and wrong’, suggesting there should be different upper age limit for different jobs.
The union asserted that upper age limit should be reconsidered at least at par with Union Public Service Commission of India, that is, upper age limit of 37 years for entry into government jobs with five years relaxation for ST candidates and 10 years for differently-abled candidates.
