Car owners and drivers attention! From March 1, 2020, if the passengers at the rear seats are found not wearing seat belts then be ready to pay a fine of Rs 1,000.
Even though the fine was introduced in the newly amended Motor Vehicles Act, however, the implementation was delayed.

“Earlier, only the driver and the ones seating at the front seat had tow ear belts. However, as per the new law, even the ones sitting at the backseat will have to wear seatbelts,” a motor vehicle department officer said.
“Those found not wearing will be fined Rs 1,000,” the officer added.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the use of seatbelts can reduce the number of accidental deaths by 25 per cent.

The amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act were passed by the Parliament in 2019 and the transport ministry issued listed out all the laws came into effect from September 1, 2019.
