The Bhangagarh Police of Guwahati in Assam seized around Rs 16.4 lakh from a youth on June 26.
The police apprehended a 23-year-old youth in this connection who has been identified as Rahul Kalita.
The accused hails from Hajo in Kamrup (Rural) district and has been staying at a rented place at Basistha area in Guwahati for some time.
He was an accountant by profession in one Smart Value Products and Services company which is located in front of Rahman Hospitals at VIP road of the city.
Partha Pratim Bora is the manager of the Northeast based company.
Office-in-charge of Bhangarh police station, Bipin Medhi said, “Rahul on June 25 lodged a complaint at Jagiroad police station that he was kidnapped by two youths from Guwahati’s G S Road by threatening him with sharp edged knives. According to Rahul he was going for some banking purpose of the company where he worked.”
“Later, when the Jagiroad police got to know the information that the case falls under Bhangagarh police station, office-in-charge of Jagiroad police station handed over the accused and the case to us on June 26,” said Bipin Medhi.
Medhi further said that the kidnapping story by Rahul was fake.
He said, “Rahul during interrogation confessed before police that nobody kidnapped him. He siphoned off the money to return a loan taken by his father from some bank.”
A case (No 106/18) under Section 392 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Bhanagarh police station.
Later, he was produced before magistrate court and sent to jail on June 27.
