NPF’s Kachui Timothy Zimik and Congress candidate Alfred Kan-Ngam Arthur will fight it out for Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat.

Imphal: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has accepted the nomination papers of four candidates for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency elections slated in two phases on April 19 and April 29.

The number of candidates to be in the fray in this Outer Manipur constituency reserved for scheduled tribes will be known only after March 30, the last date of withdrawal of candidatures.

The nomination papers of four candidates — two from political parties and an equal number from the Independent tickets were scrutinized at the office of the Returning Officer of the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency located at Thoubal district headquarters on Thursday.

The ECI has given green signals for the candidature of Kachui Timothy Zimik, a retired principal chief commissioner of Income Tax, Ministry of Finance (Revenue) as a candidate for the Naga People?’s Front, a regional political party active in Manipur and Nagaland.

The ECI also allowed Alfred Kan-Ngam Arthur, a former MLA of the Ukhrul assembly constituency of Manipur, as a Congress candidate.

Two candidates on independent tickets are also accepted to fight in the battle of ballots.

They are Dr. Alyson Abonmai from the Zeliangrong Naga community and Kho John former United Naga Council president who is from the Poumai Naga community.

The polling for the two Parliamentary seats in Manipur will be held in the first and second phases, on April 19 and April 26.

The polling in the Inner seat will be held on April 19 and the Outer seat will go to poll twice, on April 19 and April 26.
