Former Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the NC Hills Autonomous Council Samarjit Haflongbar expressed strong resentment against Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi’s order to extend the term of  the Council by another six months from June 1 and decided to file PIL in the court.

During a telephonic conversation with Northeast Now, Samarjit Haflongbar said, “We will move Gauhati High Court and file PIL against the Governor’s order.”

Haflongbar further said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has extended the Council’s term by showing unnecessary reasons only in fear of losing Council’s election. At this moment the BJP has no option but to extend the term of the Council.”

Criticising the BJP-led state government on non-release of Normal department workers’ salary for last ten months and the deplorable road condition of the Dima Hasao district, Haflongbar said, “Debolal Gorlosa-led NC Hills Autonomous Council has completely failed to fulfill the promises made to the people of the Dima Hasao district. People have not witnessed any improvement of the worst road conditions in the district.”

Talking to Northeast Now on Thursday, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) organising secretary and former NCHAC CEM Debojeet Thausen also expressed his dissatisfaction over the Governor’s order and said that the ruling coalition party AGP would move court against the order.
