Former chief minister of Nagaland, T R Zeliang on Friday apologized for his alleged sexist remark he made recently in a session of the Nagaland Assembly.
On February 25, the leader of opposition while participating in a debate on the Citizenship Bill in the Nagaland Assembly remarked that ‘some men can please two girls but no man can serve two masters’, according to reports.

The comment was strongly protested by the women body of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP).
Zeliang on Friday said that he is sorry if his comments had hurt the sentiments of any section of the society, mostly women.
He said that the comment was uttered in a good vein because humorous description of events or topics under discussion is a normal practice which is known to all members of the Legislative Assembly.

The women body of the NDPP had called his remark as ‘callous and insensitive’ and claimed that it was also an insult to all women.
They accused Zeliang of making such a rude remark despite being a powerful political leader and also the father of a daughter and a husband.
Questioning about the way Zeliang perceives women, the women’s wing of NDPP also asked about the kind of example the leader of opposition was setting for the younger generation to follow.
The women’s body also explained how the women of the State had played an active role in different kinds of fields.
They had also appealed to the people of the State to condemn Zeliang’s rude statement.
