Veteran politician and chief minister for a brief one-month period during 1990s, Chishi said he would contest the Assembly elections 2018 from his former 32 A/C Atoizu Assembly constituency.

He won the 2008 Assembly election from Dimapur-I on Congress ticket.

Advisor, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Jacob Zhimomi is also all set to join the saffron party. He resigned from the State Assembly on Sunday.

Jacob did not state any reason for leaving the Assembly, but BJP sources said he has resigned to join the saffron party.

Jacob is an Independent MLA.

So far three MLAs have resigned from the state Assembly – two from NPF and one Independent. Former Home Minister Y Patton and former Advisor Vikho Yhoshu resigned from the Assembly earlier.

Patton has joined BJP but a source said Vikho is likely to join Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP).

The strength of State Assembly has now been reduced to 56. Western Angami Assembly constituency fell vacant due to the death of former minister Kiyanielie Peseyie.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland unit of BJP has welcomed two intending candidates – V Kashiho Sangtam (59 Seyochung Sitimi Assembly constituency) and H Kehovi (33 Suruhoto Assembly constituency) – into its fold.

The state BJP, in a release, said that the two joined the party in Guwahati on January 19 in presence of Union Minister of State for Home and BJP election in-charge for Nagaland, Kiren Rijiju, and BJP state unit president Visasolie Lhoungu. The release maintained that “shortly many significant developments” would take place in the state in favour of the party.

The BJP also reminded the party resolution, adopted at state executive meeting in Mokokchung, regarding “an open door policy” to welcome any new entrants in the party without any pre-condition.
