Former Jawaharlal Nehru University professor Vinod Kumar Jain has been appointed the next Vice-Chancellor of the Tezpur University after his name was cleared by President Ram Nath Kovind from a panel of four forwarded to him by the Human Resource Development ministry.
Dr Jain, who was a professor of Physics in JNU, New Delhi, told Northeast Now over phone from New Delhi that it was huge honour to be appointed as Vice Chancellor of the prestigious university in the country.

“It’s a huge honour to be appointed as the VC of Tezpur University. It would be a challenging task for me to keep up its ranking in the days to come,” Jain said.
“I will do my level best to take the university forward,” Jain said.
Prior to this, Prof Jain also served as Vice-Chancellor of Doon University, Dehradun from March 2012 to August 2017.

Jain is an eminent researcher, educational administrator and environmentalist.
A DPhil in Plasma Physics from Sussex University, Brighton, UK Prof Jain was at IIT, Delhi as a CSIR Pool Scientist in the Department of Physics during 1983-85 and later joined the School of Environmental Sciences JNU, as an Associate Professor in 1985.
Prof Jain has been a visiting Research Engineer in the Electrical Engineering Department, University of California, Los Angeles, USA.
