Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has recently announced that he had released Rs 1 crore from his MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to fight COVID-19.
The BJP MP of East Delhi has also contributed his one month’s salary towards the Central Relief Fund for tackling the coronavirus pandemic.
He tweeted, “It is time that all resources of the country be directed towards fighting COVID-19. Have released INR 1 Crore from my MP LAD fund towards relief efforts.Have also donated one month’s salary towards the Central Relief Fund.United we stand!”

Gambir had also earlier pledged to donate Rs 50 lakh for purchasing of equipment required for treatment of coronavirus.
In a letter to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, BJP MP Gambhir stated, “In furtherance of the united effort to save our city and citizens from this pandemic, I would like to pledge Rs 50 lakh from my MPLAD fund for equipment that may be needed for Covid-19 treatment in state government hospitals.”
The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has now increased to 1024 even as the country remains under a 21-day lockdown announced by Prime Minister NarendraModi to stop the spread of the virus.
With the overall vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to alleviate sufferings of the people during the 21-day nationwide lockdown, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has communicated to the state/UT governments to take appropriate measures to ensure effective implementation of the lockdown measures on maintaining social distance, while mitigating the economic hardship of the migrant workers during this period.
