Rammohan

E N Rammohan, who speared headed the Border Security Force (BSF) as its Director General (DG) with élan passed away at the Trauma Centre of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi early Sunday morning.

Rammohan had earlier served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.

A profound gentleman, Rammohan symbolized the ultimate in honesty, integrity and moral courage.

During his tenure as the SP of East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya, he garnered wide appreciation, popularity and goodwill of the citizens for his friendly nature.

He would interact freely with the youth on the roads. He would go out of the way and visit examination centres to extend his good wishes to the students.

A personality that demanded admiration, Rammohan was always in his uniform and maintained himself well with crew cut hair and a lush upright handlebar moustache.

Known as a no-nonsense cop, Rammohan always spoke with clarity on subjects with bright peering eyes.

He was an IPS of Assam-Meghalaya cadre.

Originally from Kerala, Rammohan studied in Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School in Chennai.

Being an only son, his parents didn’t allow him to join the elite forces – the Army, Air Force or Navy.

So he appeared for the civil services examination to become an Indian Police Services (IPS) officer.

After his selection in the Indian Police service in the Assam-Meghalaya cadre he went on record to state that, ‘I opted for it because I wanted to know about the North-east, a region very different from where I grew up’.

Apart from Meghalaya, Rammohan also served in Assam and Manipur. These stints enhanced his understanding of the region.
