Manipur Agriculture Minister V Hangkhalian on Wednesday said about 79,159 hectares of crop land were affected by the floods occurred in the State during 2017.

Hangkhalian told the House while replying to a question raised by opposition Congress MLA Surjakumar Okram during the ongoing Budget Session of the State Legislative Assembly.
Though Imphal East district has the largest affected areas in terms of its damage area coverage 23,118 hectares), Senapati district has no crop damage report as per the statement of the Agriculture Minister.
With 10 hectares of affected land, Tamenglong has the least affected area in the State.

Agriculture Minister Hangkhalian also informed the House that the crop damage report has been submitted to the Relief and Disaster Management Department requesting it to provide admissible relief to the affected farmers of the State.
In 2017, at least 20 people were reportedly killed due to flash floods in various parts of Manipur.
Besides, heavy rains which continued for several days caused havoc in Manipur in July, triggering landslides and sinking of highways connecting Imphal, the State capital, with the rest of the country.
The landslides also severely affected movement of vehicles on the national highways in the State.
Cyclone Mora also hit the State badly in May.
