Fifth annual conference of ACTA Darrang-Udalguri zone held

The fifth annual conference of Darrang-Udalguri zone of Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) was held at Udalguri College on Thursday with a day-long agenda.

The programme got underway with the last executive meeting of the zone followed by hoisting of the ACTA flag and floral tributes to the departed souls.

The annual academic journal of the organization ‘Jnanam’, was formally released by Rihon Daimari, State Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister of Assam and Dr Luke Daimari, principal of

Udalguri College on the occasion.

Dr Rita Boro, last year’s winner of Sahitya Akademi was felicitated on the occasion.

The best graduates under the zone from Arts, Science and Commerce streams were also feted as part of the programme.

Inaugurating the open session chaired by Dr Pranab Kumar Sarmah, president of the organization, State Cabinet Minister Rihon Daimari assured to address the grievances of the college teachers as per the guidelines of the UGC and State Government norms.

Earlier in the day, the executive meeting passed a number of resolutions among which the demand for retirement age of college teachers to 65 years was reiterated. Among other demands, the ACTA also demanded for clearance of 18 months arrear dues of college teachers with effect from January 2006 to June 2017, regularization of posts of a section of assistant professors serving against lump sum pay between Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 per month till date.

A new Darrang-Udalguri zonal committee of ACTA for 2018 session was also formed with Dipak Kalita of Kharupetia College as president, Ghateswar Baruah of Tangla College as vice president and Dr Dulendra Nath of Sipajhar College as general secretary respectively.
