Fathers day special

When the NPP was accorded the “National Party” status by the ECI, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma described it as a “befitting tribute” to the party’s founder Purno Agitok Sangma.

The first reaction of Conrad K. Sangma on the political achievement was a great example of “paying tribute” to the great father, Purno Agitok Sangma.

“It is a very nostalgic moment for all of us that the party founded by Late Purno Agitok Sangma has achieved its due recognition….,” Conrad tweeted.

Undoubtedly, Purno Agitok Sangma is the tallest politician the Northeast has produced. And following his footsteps, his youngest son is the Meghalaya chief minister now.

And, on the eve of Father’s Day, it is worth mentioning that PA Sangma is also a proud father to have produced children like Conrad K. Sangma, James K. Sangma and Agatha K. Sangma.

While James is the home minister of Meghalaya, Agatha is the MP from Tura, the parliamentary constituency which senior Sangma represented from 1977 to 2016.

Like Conrad K. Sangma, another great son of a great father of Northeast is popular Bollywood playback singer Papon Angarag Mahanta. He is famous in the music industry for his folk-classical fusion numbers.

Papon’s father, Khagen Mahanta was a singer and composer of folk and traditional music of Assam. Khagen Mahanta was popularly known as Bihu Samrat (King of Bihu). His Bihu songs are still immortal in Assam.

On June 12, 5th death anniversary of the Bihu Samrat, Papon tweeted, “5 years passed by without the Bihu Samrat! We thank you for passing on the culture and identify we should hold on to. For making Bihu what it is today. And for all the songs you sang for the common man. Fondly remembering you on your #5thDeathAnniversary. Miss you so much.”

In April this year, Papon released an old album featuring few recordings of songs sung by himself, his mother Archana Mahanta and his father.

Calling the songs ‘something very precious’, it was Papon’s “tribute to the effort his father” in shaping him as a singer.

Papon’s special album was definitely the “biggest tribute” to the great father from the great son.

While Conrad and Papon are the two mature great sons, a young great son of the Northeast, in the field of cricket, has really made the father proud.

Playing for Rajasthan Royals, 17-year-old cricketer, Riyan Parag is the latest sensation in the Indian Premier League. He is the youngest player to score a 50 in IPL’s history.

The young cricketer from Assam scored his first 50 against Delhi Capitals, and it was the biggest gift from the great son to the great father. Riyan’s father, Parag Das was the opening batsman for Assam Ranji Trophy team.
