A total of four persons landed in the Guwahati police net for being involved in a fake chit fund racket.

The four have been identified as 52-year-old Paritosh Mandal, 39-year-old Chandra Das, 42-year-old Prakash Saha and 48-year-old Paresh Basak. All of them were arrested by Dispur Police on the basis of a police complaint lodged by a group of people.
The complainants, who are residents of the Lalganesh area of Guwahati, are clients of Subhasakti Thrift Credit Co-operative Society Limited (STCCSL), a chit fund company based in a Guwahati.
According to information, Paritosh Mandal is the chairman of the company, Chandra Das is its secretary while Paresh Basak and Paritosh Mandal are members of the board of directors of STCCSL

STCCSL has been running money deposit schemes and the clients can deposit money from Rs 20 to Rs 200 daily through the agents of the company. According to a media report there are 200 to 250 clients of the chit fund company in the Sreebhumi Nagar area under Odlabakra Outpost.
The clients of the company were compelled to lodge the complaint when the agents of the company did not turn up to collect money for the last week.
According to report, on Sunday morning, STCCSL secretary Chandra Das surrendered before the police. The four have been arrested under Sections 420, 406, 34 of the IPC and Section 5 of Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act.
All of them were produced in the court on Sunday and were remanded to five-day police custody.
