Guwahati: The inaugural edition of Exercise PRAGATI 2026 is currently underway at Umroi in Meghalaya, where it has moved into a high-intensity operational phase since its commencement on May 20. The drill has brought together over 400 military personnel representing 12 partner nations.
The exercise is designed to deepen regional security cooperation, enhance interoperability and promote coordinated response capabilities through combined training and professional interaction among participating armed forces. Conducted in a framework of equality, camaraderie and mutual respect, it provides a platform for multinational collaboration in realistic field conditions.
One of the key features has been the creation of mixed multinational teams, integrating troops from all participating countries to execute coordinated tactical missions. These teams have been actively engaged in joint field-based drills aimed at improving synchronization and operational efficiency.
Over the last few days, participants have undergone rigorous training in semi-mountainous and forested terrain around Umroi. The schedule has included rock climbing techniques, ambush and counter-ambush simulations, slithering operations, jungle lane firing drills and bus intervention scenarios.
Marksmanship competitions using sniper systems and AK-203 rifles were also held to sharpen combat skills and encourage professional exchange.
Alongside tactical training, the exercise has incorporated sporting and recreational activities to build cohesion among troops. Competitions such as basketball, volleyball and tug-of-war have helped foster teamwork, trust and informal engagement between contingents.
Officials stated that Exercise PRAGATI 2026 is focused on improving collective readiness and strengthening defence cooperation among participating countries. It reflects a shared commitment to addressing common security challenges through joint preparedness, skill development and sustained military collaboration.
