After 33 years, an 81-year-old former IAS officer has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment in a case of recovery of arms and ammunition.

A special CBI court on Friday sentenced SS Ahluwalia, former chief secretary of Nagaland five years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1, 50,000.

Ahluwalia was booked by the CBI in 1987 in a case of recovery of arms and ammunition from his official residences at New Delhi and Kohima.

After thorough investigation, a chargesheet was filed in 1992 in the Designated Court. Charges were framed against him in 2010.

According to officials, after allegations of disproportionate assets, the CBI had conducted raids in Delhi and Kohima on SS Ahluwalia and recovered five fire arms.

A case was filed by the CBI in 1987 against Ahluwalia for possession of a .38 bore rifle with 74 cartridges, NP Pistol with 32 cartridges, one rifle of .275 bore, one carbine with 200 cartridges and anither rifle of .22 bore.

Ahluwalia served as deputy commissioner of Kohima district from 1975 to 1976 and director in the ministry of home affairs (MHA) till 1979. Later, he became chief secretary of Nagaland.

When the charges were framed against him in 2010, he was serving as secretary and commissioner of labour and employment in Nagaland government.
