Executive Member (EM) for Revenue, Fishery and Art and Culture, Rupsing Teron of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) informed that eviction drive at Langkaijan along the inter-district boundary between Karbi Anglong and Hojai will be conducted by the Council but the drive has been postponed as the survey of the boundary is yet to be completed.

Talking to some media persons in his chamber at KAAC Secretariat, Teron on Wednesday said, “It is not that the KAAC is not going to conduct eviction drive in Langkaijan area of Karbi Anglong along the inter-district boundary between Hojai and Karbi Anglong, but as the inter-district boundary survey is still being conducted by a joint survey team of Karbi Anglong and Hojai districts, it has to be temporarily suspended.”

It may be mentioned that the KAAC authority fixed the date for eviction drive twice. First March 9 and then March 11 were fixed for the eviction drive but on both the dates, the drive was not carried out.

EM Teron said, “A joint team comprising officials of Forest and Land Revenue departments of both Karbi Anglong and Hojai districts including the Director of Land Records, Assam has been conducting a survey for demarcation of land boundary between the two districts from March 9 last. So far, no new pillar has been erected.”

Teron further said, “Officials of the Directorate of Land Records have gone to Dibrugarh and when they come back the joint survey will continue. The survey will be completed by March 20. The eviction drive in Langkaijan area which has been occupied by illegal encroachers will be taken up after that.”
