Arunachal East MP Ninong Ering on Monday pushed for a tribal autonomous council comprising the Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of the state.

He proposed the council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution during Zero Hour in the Parliament.

“I would like to bring to the notice of the Minister of Home Affairs on issue of tribal autonomous council in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts on the lines of the Sixth Schedule. This will result in better administration of the state and bring the required autonomy and decentralization of decision-making processes. It will also take into consideration the needs of tribal people from these three districts and enable socio-economic changes,” Ering said.

“As the content of Naga Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015 remains unknown, I also request the government to respect the territorial integrity of Arunachal Pradesh, and any decision on the issue must be made with the consent of the state,” he said.

“Also the inclusion of tribes is a critical issue and tribes namely Yobin, Nocte, Tutsa, Tangsa and Wancho must be included in the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST) of Arunachal Pradesh,” Ering said.
