The Vice Chancellor of the English and Foreign Languages University Prof E Suresh Kumar called on Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at his office on Thursday to discuss intervention from his office to make the University available for the students of Meghalaya and the North East in general.

Prof Kumar said the central University, which has its campus in Shillong was not used to its maximum as there are very few students from the state, who are enrolled in the University.

Prof Kumar discussed with Chief Minister on starting training and orientation programme for the teachers of Meghalaya in the University. Chief Minister expressed his concern and has assured that he would look into the matter of training teachers.

The Chief Minister suggested the Vice Chancellor to start foreign languages particularly Japanese and Mandarin, which will benefit the students of the region.

“There is scope in these languages and our youth can take advantage of such courses if made available in the Shillong campus”, the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister said that there is a great opportunity for the youth as Meghalaya is coming up with various projects with Japan based companies and if the young people of the State learn the language it will be to their advantage.
