Guwahati: In a tragic turn of events, a 45-year-old man identified as Subhash Chandra Rabha was allegedly trampled to death by a wild elephant in Assam’s Goalpara district on Saturday.

According to forest officials, the body of the man was discovered early in the morning on Sunday.

Rabha had gone out at night at around 2 am for a walk and it is suspected that he was attacked by a wild elephant in Panditpara village, under Rangjuli Police Station.

The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem.

The elephant dragged the man to another village and trampled him to death.

According to the locals, it is high time that the authorities take up the issue of the man-elephant conflict otherwise more such incidents will keep on occurring.

Here it should be noted that several jumbos have lost their lives in the last two years due to electrocution as local put live electric wires to protect themselves from the wild elephants.
