Educating students with moral values can dispel superstitions: Assam CM

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday appealed to the parents and teachers of Kari Anglong district to educate their wards and students with moral values to get rid of the myriad influence of superstitions.

Speaking at the 67th Foundation Day Programme at Jaising Doloi auditorium in Diphu, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal acknowledged the immense role of the Karbis in forging a greater Assamese society.

Referring to the recent killing of two young artistes in Dokmoka in Karbi Anglong district, Sonowal while condemning the barbaric incident said the state government is committed to provide safety and security to all innocent residents. He also maintained that the perpetrators of the barbaric killing will be handed out an exemplary punishment.

The chief minister at the same time thanked litterateur and former President of Axom Sahitya Sabha Rong Bong Terang for speaking on the age old amity and friendship of Karbi Anlong with the main stream of the state and eased the situation amid tensions. He also thanked Chief Executive Member of KAAC Tuliram Ronghang for taking decision to install two statues of slain artistes at Karbi Anglong.

He was hopeful that this would strengthen the friendship and bonhomie between the hills and plains of Assam. He also said the government has introduced a programme called ‘Sanskar’ at every development block in the state to fight against the menace of superstitions.

Sonowal said the present government has laid special importance for the equal development of all the 33 districts of the state.

The three hill districts of the state were not given much importance by the previous governments. However, the present State government guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Bikash’ has given never before weightage for the development of the hill districts of the state.

Besides central schemes, special schemes from the state government have been implemented to expedite socio-economic development of the districts.

Sonowal while congratulating the people of Karbi Anglong on the occasion of 67th foundation day of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council said both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts have immense potentials. He, therefore, urged upon the people to work hard to utilize the verdant potentials to make the districts attractive tourists destinations of the state.

Hill Areas Development Minister Sum Ronghang while speaking on the occasion gave a snapshot of all the development schemes formulated for the development of Karbi Anglong district.

Lok Sabha MP Biren Sing Engti, MLA Howraghat JairamEngleng, MLA Bokajan Dr Nomal Momin and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
