Thokchom Kirankumar, the Returning Officer of Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency accepted nominations of six candidates and rejected nomination of one candidate.

Imphal: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday gave go-ahead signals to the six candidates and rejected a nomination paper of one candidate (independent) for the first phase of the Lok Sabha election in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency scheduled on April 19.

Thokchom Kirankumar, the Returning Officer of Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency accepted nominations of six candidates and rejected one candidate of Inner Manipur PC election.

The acceptance and rejections were made after minutely scrutinising the nomination papers of the seven candidates at the office of the RO located at the District Commisioner’s office, Imphal West.

The six candidates whose nomination papers allowed for the further electoral process are Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam of Congress, Thounaojam Basanta Kumar of BJP, Maheshwar Thounaojam of RPI (Athawale), Moirangthem Totomshana Nongshaba of Rashtriya Janhit Sangharsh Party (RJSP), Rajkumar Somendro Singh @ Kaiku of the regional Manipur People’s Party and Haorungbam Sarat, an independent candidate.

The nomination of Ngasepam Nilakanta of the Universal Family Party was rejected by the Returning Officer.

However, the number of candidates to be in the fray in this seat will be known after March 30, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures.

The polling in the Inner seat will be held on April 19.
