Now echoes for carrying out National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise in Tripura are heard in the north-eastern state with the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT), a lesser known party pressing for an Assam like process.
The INPT state committee in its Saturday’s meeting has decided to approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to carryout NRC in Tripura to identify bodafide Indian citizens.
The general secretary of the party Jagadish Debbarma on Saturday alleged that the demographic picture of the State has totally changed due to influx from across the border, adding that ‘Tripura can’t bear the extra burden of infiltrators any more’.
The party has decided to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Union Home demanding for NRC in Tripura which had witnessed ‘large scale infiltration from across the border’.
The INPT also alleged that despite rampant infiltration, the State Government is doing nothing to check it.
