Imphal: The Manipur government on Saturday declared a “Dry Days” in the whole state of Manipur with effect from 4.00 pm of April 17 to 4.00 pm of April 19 owing to the first phase of the Manipur Parliamentary constituency election and dry days from 4:00 pm of April 24 to 4 pm of April 26 for the second phase of elections and also on June 4, due to counting of votes.

Manipur with its two Lok Sabha seats will go to the elections on April 19 and April 26. The counting will take place on June 4, 2024.

Ng Roman Singh, Additional Commissioner of Excise, Manipur, in an official notification issued on Saturday states that the dry days are being declared in pursuance of Section 135c of the Representation of People’s Act, 1951, and in the exercise of power conferred under Section 17(3) of Eastern Bengal and Assam Excise Act, 1910 which is extended in the state of Manipur.

Further, no spirituous, fermented, or intoxicating liquor substances of like nature shall be sold, given, or distributed at hotels, eating houses, taverns, shops, or any other place, public or public, within a polling area during the 48 house ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll for election in the polling areas, the notification states.

The order covers all the 57 liquor license holders including exempted categories.
