Dry day declared in Assam on Vijaya Dashami on Friday

Liquor shops in Assam will remain closed on Friday on Vijaya Dashami to maintain law and order. Excise department officials said, “Dry day has been announced on Friday to prevent untoward incident during Vijaya Dashami.”

According to an order issued under provisions of section 51(I) of Assam Excise Act, 2000, all the IMFL off, clubs, country spirit shops will remain closed during the period.

Violation of the order will attract appropriate legal action, said the order. Meanwhile, police have put in place foolproof security in the city to ensure peaceful immersion of Durga idols.

The processions taken out prior to the immersion of the Durga idols attract a large crowd every year in Guwahati.

The immersion will be at Kachomarighat in Fancy Bazaar and Pandu ghat, Saukuchi ghat, Chunsali ghat in Noonmati and Basistha ghat in the city.
