Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday assured people that if any genuine Indian citizen’s name is left out of the final draft of the NRC, they should not get apprehensive.

Addressing a programme organized for handing over of LPG connections to beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in Dudhnoi, Sonowal said, “If any genuine Indian citizen’s name is left out in the final draft NRC, he will get a chance to get his name enlisted in the NRC. The Central and state governments will extend help in this regard.”

He also called upon all sections of the people of the society to thwart all negative campaigns relating to NRC.

“Some unscrupulous elements in the society are hell bent to create disharmony by spreading false information,” Sonowal said.

Distributing LPG connections to the beneficiaries in Goalpara district Sonowal said without the progress of women, all round development of the society is not possible.

Sonowal said Goalpara is very rich in agriculture and responding to Chief Executive Member of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Tankeswar Rabha’s request he announced that state government would set up an extension centre of Assam Agricultural University at Goalpara district. He also said the banana market of Darangiri in Goalpara district is one of the largest markets in Asia and the extension centre of Assam Agricultural University would definitely help in strengthening Goalpara district’s reputation as agriculturally prosperous district.

Chief Minister Sonowal also said that an institution would bet set up at Goalpara in recognition to eminent drama exponent Sukracharjya Rabha who had expired recently. While acknowledging the role played by Birubala Rabha in wiping out superstitions from the society, he appealed to all sections of the people of the society to stand against superstitions. He said that Choto Matia Village in Matiya Revenue Circle has been selected as ‘Clean and Green Village’ as he thanked Goalpara District Administration for planting 12 lakh saplings in the district.

Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Phani Bhusan Chowdhury, Chief Executive Member of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Tankeswar Rabha, MLA Dudhnoi Dipak Kumar Rabha also spoke on the occasion. MLA Dr Nomal Momin, Rituporna Baruah, Additional Chief Secretary Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Kumar Sanjay Krisna Chief General Manager IOC U Bhattacharya, Bharat Petroleum (LPG), State Head Pankaj Das and host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
