DoNER has put up two Tamil videos in its website which are totally irrelevant. It is a faux pas that is never to be.
While the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region is the nodal agency to deal with the socio-economic development of the eight states of the northeast, it has surprisingly started portraying health intervention experiences of Tamil Nadu.

Established in 2001, the Ministry of DoNER acts as a facilitator between the Central Ministries and the state governments of the northeast in the economic development including development of infrastructure, provision of basic services, creating environment for investment and guaranteeing lasting peace and security.
But, a visit to the official website of the Ministry of DoNER is sure to surprise everyone. The Events and Announcements section of the website talks about “Health Interventions Local Tradition and Episiotomy experiences from Tamil Nadu”.
Two videos in Tamil have been uploaded in the Events and Announcements section of the website. The first video is a poorly performed drama in Tamil, while a group of ladies were seen laughing with the performance in the background. The drama video has no sub-titles, and people of the northeast are confused as to what message the Ministry of DoNER is trying to spread in the region through the video.

The second video shows a group of ladies signing a devotional song in Tamil. Like the drama video, the Tamil devotional song also did not have any sub-titles. The tribals in the northeast are totally confused as to what message the DoNER minister Jitendra Singh or his ministry is trying to give to the people of the northeast.
“We don’t understand as to what message the Ministry of DoNER is trying to give us through the two videos from Tamil Nadu,” Aibor Dkhar, a student in Shillong said, adding that he had visited the Events and Announcements section of the website with the hope to find something new for the northeast.
Like Aibor Dkhar, one educated unemployed youth in Guwahati, Manoj Das, said the Ministry of DoNER has made a joke of itself by putting up the two videos from Tamil Nadu on the website, which is supposed to work only for the development of the eight northeast India states.
Interestingly, the Events and Announcements section of the Ministry of DoNER website also has a power-point presentation on Reproductive and Child Health of Tamil Nadu. The presentation has several slides in Tamil, and has no relevance in the northeast.
People of the northeast are sure to get confused as to why the Ministry of DoNER is trying to promote Tamil Nadu on its website. “If it has been done deliberately, people of the northeast should get united, and register a strong protest,” Aibor Dkhar said.
