Assam Government on Monday said they will start distribution of Aadhaar cards from March, for which 1,241 locations has been identified for Aadhaar Kendras.
Chandra Mohan Patowary Parliamentary Affairs Minister, in a written reply to a query by Congress MLA Durga Bhumij said that the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has cancelled distribution of Aadhaar through its empanelled enrolment agency.
The Minister informed that UIDAI had asked to distribute the Aadhaar cards through State Government employees.
“Accordingly, the State Government has taken initiative to begin the process by activating Aadhaar Kendras and has set the target date of distribution of the Aadhaar cards as March 2018,’’ Patowary said.
The government has already directed the Deputy Commissioners of the districts to take necessary steps in setting up these Aadhaar Kendras, Patowary said.
