The State Government has instituted a one man enquiry panel to investigate into the Dhula firing incident.

The state home department vide a Notification issued on January 17 last, has constituted the One Man Inquiry Committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary MGVK Bhanu.

A man died as police opened fire to control a mob, which attacked a police station alleging death of a person due to torture in custody at Dhula in Darrang district on January 9.

“The Committee has been constituted to inquire into the circumstances leading to the death of one Hasen Ali, son of Jafar Ali of No. 2 Adakata village under Dhula police station in Darrang district, in the intervening night of January 9 and 10, 2018 and subsequent road blockade of NH-15 in front of Dhula police station and Police firing resulting into death of Moidul Islam, son of Jehiruddin of NK Gorapori village under Dhula police station in Darrang district,” an official statement said.

The Committee will ascertain the fact and circumstances leading to the death of Hasen Ali in the intervening night of January 9 and 10 under Dhula police station.

With due regard to the facts ascertained, the Committee will inquire whether there was any lapse on the part of Police administration in tackling the road blockade carried out by the local people at NH- 15 leading to Police firing, resulting in the death of Moidul Islam, and if so, will fix responsibility.

The committee has been directed to submit its report within 30 days from the date of issue of the notification.
