A 15-day-long Bihu Dance workshop 2018 (Bihu Nasor Karmasala-201 8) organised by the Dimoria Regional Unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) was inaugurated on Saturday by Assam’s popular singer Jina Rajkumari at Dimoria on the outskirts of Guwahati.
On the first day of the workshop on Saturday, around 1500 children participated.
As per information, all the children will be trained Bihu folk dance and how to play dhols free of cost by the students’ body.
Bihu festivities will get under way from April 14, 2018.
It is to be noted that the students’ body conducts such free of cost Bihu Dance workshop every year to propagate the Assamese folk culture among today’s new generation who tend to forget the Assamese culture and have adopted many forms of western culture.
Jatindra Nath Deka, the President of Dimoria AASU said, “This is a part of our efforts to save the Assamese culture and propagate its high moral values among the children of the new generation.”
He added that this would increase respect towards the Assamese culture into the hearts of today’s children.
Dipu Zena Sarma, General Secretary of the Dimoria unit of AASU said that the workshop will conclude on April 13 with a grand closing ceremony in presence of distinguished guests.
The best performers will be chosen and a team will be formed which would perform in and around the region in different Bihu functions on demand.
The children will be trained by Master Rupam Sharma along with Mousumi Pathak.
