In a bid to give a fillip to the new concept of journalism – digital media – in Assam, a new digital media scribes’ body titled Digital Media Journalists’ Association of Assam (DiMJAA) was formed during a meeting in Guwahati with representations from most of the digital media houses of the State on Sunday.
Representatives from a total of 16 digital media houses were present in the meeting held at Dispur Press Club.
The DiMJAA has been formed with Swapnil Bharali of G Plus as the president and Manas Roy of Northeast Now as general secretary.
The other office-bearers of the State’s newly-floated digital media association are: executive president Ranjan K Baruah (Assam Times); two vice-presidents namely Asif Ibrahim (Northeast Now) and Biswajit Nath (UB Wire), five assistant general secretaries Wahedar Rahman (News Next One), Lakhinath Hira (Assam Sangbad), Sangita Saikia (nefocus.com), Sidharth Bedi Varma (G Plus) and Jayanta Deka (News Mill), organizing secretary Mahesh Deka (Northeast Now), publicity secretary Durlav Gogoi (Northeast Now) and treasurer Nitul Deka (Inside NE).
Executive members were selected from each digital media house.
During the meeting, presided over by Northeast Now’s Rajen Sarma, which discussed a number of issues related to the digital media including the issue of survival to preparation of guidelines for digital media, a seven-member committee was also formed to prepare a constitution of the association.
The seven-member committee comprises Raju Deuri (Northeast Now), Wahedar Rahman (News Next One), Biswajit Nath (UB Wire), Jayanta Deka (News Mill), Ranjan K Baruah (Assam Times) besides the president and general secretary of the association.
It was decided to urge all the journalists associated with different digital media houses to give their suggestions within June 10, 2018 regarding the aims and objectives to be included in the constitution of the association before the next executive meeting. It was decided to hold the next executive meeting on June 10, 2018.
