Dibrugarh on Wednesday erupted into joy after Justice Ranjan Gogoi was sworn in as the 46th Chief justice of India.

The members of Dibrugarh Bar Association celebrated the occasion by bursting crackers and distributing sweets among them.  The building of Dibrugarh session court was decorated with earthen lamps.

Dibrugarh citizens were also happy because the son of the soil is now the Chief justice of India.

Don Bosco School principal KC Vincent said, “We are very proud of him because he is past pupil of this school. Our students will be inspired from him and he can become a role model for our students.”

Ex-president of Asom Sahitya Sabha Nagen Saikia expressed his good wishes to Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. “It’s a great moment for us because the son of the soil has sworn in as the Chief justice of India. We are very proud of him and wished him good luck.”

Ranjan Gogoi was sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of India by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cabinet ministers and former PM Manmohan Singh were present during the oath taking ceremony. Justice Gogoi was born on November 18, 1954 in Assam’s Dibrugarh district. He is the first person from the North East to hold the post of Chief Justice of India.

Subir Kejriwal, an alumnus of Dibrugarh Don Bosco School, said, “We are very proud of him because he was a former alumnus of Dibrugarh Dos Bosco School. A student of Dibrugarh has climbed a top ladder in Indian Judiciary.”

Ajit Borgohain, president of Dibrugarh Bar Association said, “We are proud of him because he belongs to Dibrugarh and practised at Gauhati High Court after his graduation from New Delhi. We have celebrated the swearing in ceremony of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi in Dibrugarh session court. The senior advocates and judicial officer spoke about the past history of Ranjan Gogoi. We have distributed sweets among us and discussed his past history how he used to come with his father in Dibrugarh session court.”
