Kharupetia town, one of the business hubs of the northern Assam escaped a serious disaster when disaster reduction force in six fire fighting tenders from Kharupetia and Mangaldai on Tuesday night took around two hours to completely bring under control a devastating fire that engulfed a mustard seed godown located at busy ward no 1 area of the town.
The fire which reportedly broke out in the godown owned by one Gautam Surana at around 9 pm damaged a huge quantity of mustard seeds amounting more than Rs 1 lakh.

However, there is no report of any loss of life. The cause of the fire is suspected to be due to some electric short circuit. But the actual cause will come out only after completion of the final police investigation.
