Union Ministry of Law and Justice on late Wednesday night issued a notification stating the transfer of Justice S. Murlidhar, who had earlier pulled up Delhi Police over their inaction on hate speeches of the BJP leaders.

According to the notification, Justice Murlidhar has been transferred from Delhi High Court to Punjab and Haryana High Court.

“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice S. Murlidhar, Judge of the Delhi High Court, as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High COurt and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Punjab and Hiaryana High Court,” the notification read.

Notably, on February 12 last the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the transfer of Justice Muralidhar.

However, the notification of the Ministry of Law and Justice came on the day when he came down heavily on the Delhi Police for its inaction over registering hate speeches by saffon party leaders.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court Bar Association has condemned the Ministry’s recommendation to transfer Murlidhar.
