He also organized another largely attended public meeting on the burning topic at Kalaigaon on February 26 of 1978 and a mass rally at Gandhi Maidan at Mangaldai on April 19 of 1979 before the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) had taken up the issue to create an unprecedented six-year long Assam agitation” said president Barua.

This was followed by the ceremonial unveiling of the board displaying the names of all the 855 martyrs of the Assam Agitation.

Founder Secretary of the party’s Darrang district committee Ramesh Chandra Deka performed the formality.

Much to the joy of the party leaders ahead of the panchayat election the meeting also witnessed more than fifty young supporters of Congress under Dalgaon LAC under the leadership Bolai Sil of Kharupetia town and former district secretary of Congress SC Cell Bhupen Das joining the regional party.
