The Eastern Air Command (EAC) in Shillong has kept 15 helicopters on standby for any relief and rescue operation due to impact of cyclone Fani.

A spokesman of the Eastern Air Command at Shillong said on Friday adding that six light helicopters with winch for rescue work, five medium lift helicopters for deploying the relief material and four AN 32 aircraft have been kept ready with medical relief teams for ferrying relief material, medical help and NDRF teams with equipment.

“Helicopters have been kept ready at Bagdogra and Purnea for quick deployment in Odisha and West Bangal.

“In addition at Kumbhigram in Silchar, medium lift helicopters have been kept standby for the phase when the storm would start to hit the states of Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland. Operations are being supervised by Air Marshal Sandeep Singh, SASO HQ EAC,” said the EAC spokesman.
