In a major setback for the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), five district committees of the Chah Shramik Mukti Sangram Samity, the tea garden wing of the peasants’ organisation on Sunday collectively resigned and floated a new outfit in Golaghat.
The new outfit– Chah Shramik Mukti Sangram Samity (Shwatantra) has been formed with Sanjay Krishna Tanti as president, Amit Naag and Mukesh Jalan as working president and general secretary respectively.
A 31-member convenor committee has been formed which will take initiative for expansion of bases of the organisation.
Sanjay Krishna Tanti, who has been named as president of the newly floated outfit, earlier in 2016, had formed another workers’ organisation, Gana Adhikar Sangram Samiti deserting Chah Shramik Mukti Sangram Samity as its convener.
The development at KMSS strong Golaghat came as a shock to its leadership.
The KMSS in December last year had launched massive protests against the firing on the unarmed tea garden workers by the owners Bogidhola Tea Estate in Golaghat.
As many as 10 workers of the tea estate were injured when the owners, siblings Sudhir and Samir Roy.
They opened fire when around 500 workers marched to their bungalow to demand the bonus due to them.
Following the incident, KMSS along with its tea garden wing Chah Shramik Mukti Sangram Samity had launched massive protest in Golaghat.
