CPI leader and former JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar and Dalit leader and independent MLA Jignesh Mevani will join the Congress on October 2.

Kanhaiya Kumar was a member of the CPI national executive.

In 2019, Kanhaiya Kumar had contested from Bihar’s Begusarai constituency on a CPI ticket.

Mevani – who represents Gujarat’s Vadgam constituency – could be made a Working President of the party’s state unit, ND TV reported.

As per reports, Kumar has already met Rahul Gandhi – twice in two weeks – and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra – to discuss his future role in the party.

Kumar is likely to play a role in strengthening the Congress in Bihar if he is inducted into the party.

Sources in Congress told The Indian Express that Kumar is keen to play an active role in state politics.
