India is witnessing the third wave of COVID-19, with massive spike in virus numbers reported from almost all states. 

In view of rising COVID-19 cases, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has decided to shut as many as 67 training centers across the country.  

The decision comes in the wake of directives issued by various states to suspend sporting activities for the safety of athletes. 

Notably, in yet another massive spike in COVID-19 cases in India, the country, on Monday, logged nearly 1.80 lakh new cases.

India reported 1,79,723 cases of COVID-19 on Monday at a positivity rate of 13.29% taking the active cases tally of the country above the 7-lakh mark. 

This is the fourth day when India’s COVID-19 single-day tally stayed above the 1-lakh mark. 

The union ministry of health and family welfare further informed that 146 new COVID-19 deaths were also recorded in the last 24 hours. 

The number of Omicron also surged in India and now stands at 4033.
