He was addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan on Thursday afternoon in presence of AICC national secretary and Tripura in-charge Bhupen Vora, senior vice president Pijush Bhowmik and other senior leaders.

“Congress will not only contest in the panchayat election but also give tough fight to the BJP in the ground and in the meantime already covered eighty per cent of the districts holding meetings for preparation for the polls as panchayat poll is very vital. Moreover, from 1.6 per cent vote now the people of the State has brought Congress to the second position but CPI-M has also surrendered and there is no sign of their existence in the State,” said the Tripura PCC president and also the head of the royal Manikya dynasty of Tripura.

He said that though the chief minister before the election said that the Congress will lose its deposit amount after the poll but the results reflect it is IPFT and which is part of the government that lost its deposit in the last election.

Debbarman said his party leaders will meet the chief minister with appeal that in the forthcoming gram panchayat elections there is proper law and order and ensure free and fair polls so that people can freely exercise their right to vote.

The Congress chief also attacked the CPI-M for being very inactive and giving a free hand to the BJP.

Meantime, AICC secretary and in-charge of Tripura, Bhupen Bora alleged the ruling BJP totally failed to fulfill their commitments made in its Vision Document be it fulfilling of 50,000 vacant posts in the government sector or raising the MGNREGA payment to Rs 340 per day.

He said that the Congress from 1.6 per cent has to raise to 26 per cent in the vote share and now with the people of Tripura fed up with the one year of BJP rule and if in such a situation a free and fair election takes place BJP will not even be able to get the second position and that is why all violence are taking place to create a fear atmosphere in the state.

He appealed to the State Government to stop violence on Congress workers and added that a team of the party will meet the chief minister for his intervention to protect the democracy.
