Two-day International Conference on “Sustainable Development and North East India in the Globalized Era” is underway in Imphal.
The conference was organised by Federation of Government College Teachers’ Associations, Manipur (FEGOCTA) in partnership with DM College of Arts, Imphal, GP Women’s College, Imphal and Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal.

Manipur Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam was the chief guest of the formal inauguration of the conference at the Sangai Conference Hall, Imphal Hotel here on Friday.
Director Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo of IBSD, Principal Imphal Sarangajit Khundrakpam of D M College Arts, Principal Dr B Lalhari Sharma of G P Women’s College, Imphal, President Dr Angom Pishak Singh of FEGOCTA, Chairperson and Organising Committee of International Conference Dr Ch Sheelaramani and many others participants from across the globe attended the conference.
Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Radheshyam said deprivation, prosperity to share and vulnerability are very much related with the sustainable development. Appealing to transform the beautiful ideas into action for development, he said ‘sustainable development could be called the relevance’ for it means to address the needs of today without compromising for future generations.

Therefore it is very important that the past, present and future be understood and to take the necessary steps carefully for the betterment of the world. So that the sustainable development could be achieved for the generations to come, he added. Beautiful ideas need to be turned into action for the development, for this he said one has to think globally identify the local issues and act locally.
The conference is being organised in view to discuss the emerging trends and challenges of development with a focus on North East India in general and Manipur in particular, according to FEGOCTA.
The Conference also deliberated on the issues relating to overview of Economy, Political Economy and Environment (Plenary Session of Invited Talk of 20 Minutes Each), Strategy for Economic Growth, Prosperity and Food Security, Bioresources Management and Sustainable Development, Environment and Natural Resources, Quality Education and Development, New Approaches to Physical and Mental Health, Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, Reducing Inequalities and Disparities in Development, Innovative Approach to Justice, Peaceful and Inclusive Society and Exploring New Partnerships for Sustainable Development.
