Children’s Day was observed with great enthusiasm in educational institutions across Hailakandi district on Wednesday.

At AV Aloicherra School, the day coinciding with the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who is popularly known by the children as Chacha Nehru, was celebrated in a befitting manner by the students and teachers alike.

The day was observed at Panchgram Town High School where students and teachers paid floral tributes at the portrait of Pandit Nehru.  Headmaster AS Choudhury spoke on the significance of the day followed by enlightening speeches by teachers M Ali, C Roy and MH Borbhuiyan on the life and times of Pandit Nehru.

Students of the school, Dilruba Sabina Laskar, Jenifer Yasmin Choudhury and Altafuddin Choudhury spoke on Chacha Nehru’s passionate love for children. The day-long programme ended with rendition of patriotic songs by the students. Sweets and gifts were distributed on the occasion.

At HCMM Girls’ High School, the day was observed with varied programmes, including art competition organised by Rotary Club, Hailakandi. Art competition was also organized at Lakshirbond HS Madrassa. The day was also celebrated at AK High Madrassa. At Nityanandapur High School, a host of events were organized by the District Legal Service Authority, Hailakandi.

Children’s Day was also celebrated with gusto at Sonarei Mitei HS School at Rajyeswarpur by the students with the singing of patriotic songs accompanied by dance and also at JC HS School at Kalinagar, where principal in-charge Aparajita Roy Choudhury spoke on Pandit Nehru’s charismatic personality and his contribution towards the development of India.
