The Centre has sanctioned Rs 1300 crore as COVID package for Northeast states. 

This was informed by union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya in Guwahati on Tuesday.

“The central government has sanctioned Rs 1300 crore as COVID response package to all Northeastern states,” union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in Guwahati. 

Mandaviya was in Guwahati on Tuesday for a meeting with health ministers and officials of all the Northeast states.

“Reviewed the pandemic situation, vaccination and implementation of ECRP-II in the Northeast states, along with all the Health Ministers of NE states,” Mandaviya said.

He added: “8 States of the North-Eastern region have been sanctioned Rs 1352.92 crore. I have assured the States that the Central Government will continue to give all possible help & urged them to expedite the implementation of the ECRP – II package.”

“This package will help to create the necessary infrastructure for COVID testing, medicine storage, COVID beds, paediatric units, ventilators & oxygen storage, among other medical facilities,” Mandaviya further said.

Mandaviya held a review meeting over COVID-19 pandemic and immunisation with health ministers and other officials of the Northeast states of the country.

The COVID situation in Manipur and Mizoram were the talking points during the meeting. 

The meeting also discussed measures taken by the Northeast states to tackle any possible third wave of COVID-19.
