CBI files additional FIRs against Manipur fake killings

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed three more First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with four shootout deaths in Manipur which were allegedly stage-managed.

The shootouts involve personnel of the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) who are accused in fake encounters.

The FIRs were filed by the CBI on Wednesday, official sources revealed on Friday, following Supreme Court’s order of March 12 on the writ petitions filed by the family members of the deceased.

In the first FIR, the CBI has named five Manipur Police personnel and some unidentified policemen for taking one R K Laksana in custody way back in 1999, and later allegedly killing him in a stage-managed shootout.

The accused are sub-inspector Pebam John Singh and constables Longjam Rokhon Singh, Thangmang Kipgen, K Bijoy Tarao and Fajur Rahman.

In the second case, the CBI booked unidentified personnel of 20 Assam Rifles on charges of killing one Ramaso Shingnaisui in custody in 1997.

In the third FIR, the CBI booked unidentified personnel of the CRPF’s 121 and 134 battalions for killing one Asem Romajit and one Yumnam Robita Devi in a fake encounter in 2002.

The CBI had also registered an FIR against unidentified personnel of 19 Assam Rifles to investigate the alleged arrest, torture and murder of Manipur college student Khundrakpam Tejkumar Singh in 2004.
