A cancer awareness camp has held at Haflong in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Saturday.

The cancer awareness camp was organized under the aegis of Chanakya Welfare Society, a non-government organization.

Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa graced the cancer awareness camp as the chief guest.

Notably, the cancer awareness camp was attended by eminent specialist Dr Ravi Kannan from Cachar Cancer Hospital as the resource person.

Speaking at the awareness camp, Dr Ravi Kannan said that tobacco consumption is main cause of causing 80 per cent of cancer cases in the region.

Dr Kannan also said that in today’s world, cancer can be cure completely. But timely detection is the vital aspect.

Dr Kannan also urged the women participants to be aware of breast cancer.

Elaborating on the issue of breast cancer, Dr Kannan said that the initially a small tumour develops in one of the breasts and slowly and gradually it increases in size.

He also said that the entire process of breast cancer to develop takes almost 10 years.

In this regard, he said, it is important to have awareness about the whole matter to avoid from suffering from breast cancer.

The awareness camp was well attended by representatives from various organizations, doctors, teachers, journalists and general public.
