In a shocking incident, barely six hours after publication of the first draft of the National Registrar of Citizens (NRC), a 45-year-old man in Cachar district on Monday morning committed suicide.
Police sources said the man, identified as Hanif Khan Nayak from Kashipur village in the district, committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree close to his house.

Police sources said the man took the extreme after he failed to fund his name in the draft NRC.
“Over the past few days he had an apprehension and was tensed over the NRC issue. Today when he did not find his name in the draft NRC, he ended his life by hanging himself from a tree,” said a local.
